No work, no pay for job order employees? Not anymore, at least in Mariveles, Bataan. The reason is Municipal Councilor Ivan Ricafrente has authored an ordinance authorizing the municipal government through Mayor Ace Jello Concepcion to compensate job order workers for their absences due to sickness.
Ricafrente, Sangguniang Bayan health committee chair, said it is about time JO employees get paid after contracting disease. The youthful SB member found out that many of JO employees had pulmonary tuberculosis, diabetes, high blood pressure and other communicable and non-communicable diseases that require them to incur absences. “Pag walang pasok, wala rin bayad so kawawa naman,” said Ricafrente. He said he talked to the mayor to discusss the problem and the mayor also expressed his sentiments favoring the crafting of an ordinance authorizing the granting of honorarium for JO workers. Ricafrente said a 30-day worth of compensation shall be allowed each JO employee but must be certified by the municipal health officer.
